What's New February 2012 Citra Solv Celebrates February 7, 2012, Ridgefield, CT -- In 1987, Tiffany and Debbie Gibson were vying for top place at the charts, Spuds Mackenzie was a television star, Gordon Gekko intoned that "greed is good," and acid-washed jeans were flying off the shelves. While many Americans were following trends 25 years ago, Melissa and Steve Zeitler were starting one: natural cleaning. Citra Solv, the product that was developed by the Zeitlers to help companies replace petroleum-derived solvents, turns 25 this year, one of the first American natural cleaning companies to do so. The company's product line has expanded to include several leading products in their fields: Air Scense, Citra Dish Automatic and Citra Drain. But while the Citra Solv line has grown, the company is still proudly a family owned, independent, environmentally-responsible business. To commemorate the anniversary, Citra Solv has planned several wholesale, retail and consumer promotions. "We are incredibly grateful for our customers' loyalty over these years, and feel a personal kinship to them," said Zeitler. "Our slogan, 'from our home to yours,' absolutely rings true." September 2011 What's New, Pussycat? Our summer "Get out of the Doghouse with Spot" promotion was such a big hit, we decided to give cat owners a chance to show off their pretty kitties and win some prizes, too. The "Mirror Mirror on the Wall" contest was held in conjunction with Citra Clear, our natural window and glass cleaner. The contest resulted in some very fun and stunning feline photos, but the top cat title went to Vinny, the cuddly kitty with 24 toes. Let's just say he clawed his way into our hearts… See Vinny and all the winners here: citrasolv.com/mirrorcontestwinners.shtml Citra Artists have another opportunity to show us their talent (and possibly win some great prizes) with the Falling Into Art Contest, which launched this month and concludes in November. Finally, Citra Solv was also thrilled to receive a top award ourselves this month, when Citra Dish Powder was rated the #1 natural powder by a leading consumer reporting magazine!
August 2011 Dig This! Our "Citra Artists" continue to impress us with their talent and abilities. There seem to be no lazy days of summer for this creative crew, based on the entries to our "Cultivate Your Creativity" contest! It was truly delightful seeing all the color and skill arriving in our virtual mailbox every day. Judge Cathy Taylor was awed by the number of superb submissions; view the winning entries and read about Cathy's choices here: www.citrasolv.com/art/contest5winner.html
July 2011 Fun in the Sun & on the 'Net The slow pace of sunny summer days can be filled with the simple joys of a day at the beach or an ice cold glass of lemonade…. or they can mean bored kids and bad hair days. For our summer contest, we asked our Facebook Family and friends, "What's Draining You?" in conjunction with Citra Drain, our Product of the Month, We were pleased to learn that many people shared the same simple woes that were as easily resolved as a clogged drain. If you're not a member of our Facebook Family, "like" us here for other opportunities and news: facebook page
June 2011 Citra Solv's Search For Lucky Dogs We had a doggone great time with our summer promotion, "Get Out of the Doghouse with Spot." Inspired by the furry spotmakers in our families, Citra Solv asked our clients to share their pet photos with us. Our Facebook fans were treated to daily dog snapshots and snippets, which seemed to get lots of tails wagging on all ends. Many photos had touching tales of pet rescue associated with them, so Citra Solv was pleased to make a donation to two national pet rescue organizations. The Grand Prize winners were Hudson and Bree, a pair of spotmakers with mischief in their eyes and tissues in their mouths. Find all the finalists here: doghousewinners,
May 2011 Art for Beauty's Sake Citra Solv is doing our best to preserve the beauty of the natural world with our sustainable cleaning products, but our Citra Artists are beautifying the cyber-world with their talent. In addition to showcasing their work on our Facebook pages and in our Citra Art Gallery, these talented individuals have been enthusiastically entering our Citra Art contests. Our spring contest, entitled "Inspire Your Heart With Art," brought in heaps of entries, with Kayann Aushermann's "A Woman Of Many Words" garnering the Grand Prize as judged by Cathy Taylor. Eco Elis "When you make a film, you usually make a film about an idea." – Sydney Pollack This month, Citra Solv was proud to be a sponsor of the Environmental Film Festival at Yale University (EFFY). The premiere student-run festival for environmental films, EFFY showcases the arts through cutting edge films that raise awareness of environmental and social issues. One of EFFY's Board members is Richard Miron, a Yale junior majoring in film and art. You may recall that Richard was the grand prize award winner of the Citra Solv You Tube contest. We knew he'd go on to accomplish great works, and we were pleased to be a part of this prestigious and important festival.
March, 2011 Ready, Set… Create! The Sketchbook Challenge is a fun site launched in March by 16 artists who offer monthly themes challenging other talented artists to fill their "sketchbooks" and share their works. Citra Solv has been a key element in many of these wonderful creations, and we are grateful to our Citra Artists for their support and talent! Even those who think they're not gifted with the pen or paint are encouraged to participate – or just get inspired to create their own works! Our many thanks, as always, to our talented friends and artists.
February, 2011 Inspire Your Heart… with Citra Solv We're "tickled pink" by the talent and creativity our innovative Citra Artists continue to share with us -- so much so, in fact, that this month we launched an "Inspire Your Heart with Art" contest. January, 2011 American Express Open Project Citra Solv was recently asked by American Express Open to be a participant in their Project RE:Brand program. December, 2010 Good Tidings and Tips 'Tis the season for giving and gratitude, and Citra Solv had a great time celebrating the holidays with our wonderful customers by giving away some of our favorite things, including our tried and true "recipes." Our specially created recipe cards offered simple solutions to common holiday mishaps, from tree sap and soot to lipstick and latke grease. Increasing communication with Citra Solv users via Facebook is proving to be popular – and fun, on both sides of the page. Our talented Citra Artists are continuing to post their inspiring creations, and loyal and new users are telling us tales of how our products have eased their cleaning routines. Everyone in Citra Solv family got involved with our weekly Facebook Fan Holiday Giveaways, from the random drawings to the gift wrapping and shipping. And we're all working on exciting new developments to be announced in 2011…
November, 2010 Color My World… With Citra Solv In spite of November's gray skies, it's proven to be multihued, art-filled month for Citra Solv! This month, the Color My World Art Contest winners were announced, after a particularly difficult choice for professional artist/judge Cathy Taylor. The Grand Prize has been awarded to Stacy Wills for her magnificent piece that practically recreated the entire color spectrum, "Fires in Fall." Second place goes to Wendy Anderson, and our 5 runners up are Anne Welch, Jillian Goldberg, Leslie White, Pam Peterson and Andrea Stoffer. Check out their work on our Artist's Page. Congratulations and thanks to all our talented Citra Artists! We also learned that Citra Solv is now available at Stampington, one of the largest art publishers and suppliers – along with a "how to" video and samples from our wonderful artists. Talented artists continually send us their magnificent creations, and we're always proud to show off their work on our Facebook and website pages.
October 15, 2010 The Big Picture… on a Small Card The biggest thing in the art world right now isn't big at all – in fact, it's only the size of a baseball card. http://www.atcsforall.com
September 14, 2010 What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas September 1, 2010 Citra Solv Donates to Operation Gratitude Lots of people ask what they can do to help our American soldiers fighting overseas, and here at Citra Solv, we're no exception. That's one of the reasons we featured the Citra Solv "Freedom of Expression" contest. Not only did the winners receive great prizes, but we sent copies of their inspirational artwork to Operation Gratitude. August 7, 2010 Citra Solv Becomes a Patron of the Art(ists) June 8, 2010 The distressing news of the environmentally disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has everyone asking, "What can I do"? Citra Solv is doing our part. CitraDish was donated to Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research, who is leading the wildlife rescue efforts following the Deepwater Horizon incident in the Gulf. CitraDish is a naturally derived dish soap that breaks the adhesion of dirt and oils to a surface, allowing them to rinse away. Since CitraDish is made from renewable resources, it is safe for the environment, as well as for wildlife. The detergent currently being used by Tri-State to clean the birds is a petroleum-based solution. Recent studies have said that the birds will die without human intervention. CitraDish can be instrumental in helping safely remove oil from the plumage of birds, a potentially fatal situation. Want to help? There are several organizations accepting donations and volunteer efforts, and Matter of Trust is accepting donations of clean pet hair and fleece, which is being made into oil-absorbing devices (tell your local groomer!). There is always something we can do. "Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean. For more information: May 26, 2010 Encouraging teens to give up some privacy and reveal their feelings can be a tough challenge, but one teacher found that if you toss in the right cleaning supplies, they’re happy to dig in and express themselves in a healthy and creative way. Jerry Beck, the Resident Innovator & art teacher at the Innovation Academy Charter School in Massachusetts, heard about using Citra Solv, a natural cleaning solvent, as a tool to create unique works of art. Always looking for unconventional methods of teaching, Beck introduced the process to his students, and challenged them create photo transfer collages that revealed something about themselves and explored the issues of identity. “The kids were really looking forward to doing this,” Beck explained. “Students created a type of ‘map’ to tell a story about their identity. I encouraged them to examine a plethora of issues including gender, race, ethnicity, beauty, body image, American popular culture, the media, and other themes that shape and influence our identities.” Students collected photographs from home, and also shot self-portraits and photographs inside and outside of class to integrate into the assignment. Once the photographs and various images from the internet were printed off a copy machine, Citra Solv was brushed onto the back of the copy and then rubbed (with a wooden spoon or another object) onto a piece of 18”x24” paper. The Citra Solv allowed the photo to be transferred onto the paper. These “magical” photo-transfers inspired students to add other art materials and text until their projects were completed. “The students were thrilled with the results, which truly are impressive” Beck said. “They created a series of artworks that define one’s identity through a multi-layered narrative art that reveals a sense of quality, technical virtuosity, and conceptual depth.” The projects were such a sensation, they will be featured in an art exhibit on Wednesday night, June 2nd, from 6-9 PM. at 22 Shattck Street, in the center of Lowell's art and historic district. For more information, visit www.innovationcharter.org May 1, 2010 We really love and appreciate all the Citra Solv artists who’ve been sharing their work and tips with us. We’re always excited to announce the Artist of the Month, and this month we’re pleased to present Jane Davila. Jane’s quilt work is simply, in a word, breathtaking, and everyone at Citra Solv is proud to be a part of the process used to create her artistry. We’ve also added a section to the Artists Page for Events and Workshops. Some of our multitalented friends are now teaching how to use Citra Solv to create art. Check this page to see if there’s a workshop in your area, or let us know if you’d like to add one of your own. April 22, 2010 Talk about your tough decisions… after receiving a staggering number of entries from all over the country, Citra Solv announced the winners and runners-up for the Citra Solv Art Contest. These original creations reflected the best works by some unbelievable talent! The response we received to this contest exceeded all of our expectations and we would like to thank everyone who took the time to create and then submit their work. Kudos and thanks to Cathy Taylor, the judge of the contest, who had the difficult task of selecting the winning pieces out of so many fantastic submissions. Check out some of the Best of the Best here: April 13, 2010 Upcycling is also an increasing trend in the fashion world (it’s a good excuse to cut up some of those old bridesmaid dresses!). In fact, our talented artists have been telling us that Citra Solv is a key element in many upcycling projects. The talented Jana Lamberti was kind enough to write down and send us the steps for using Citra Solv to Upcycle. So let’s add another word onto the environmental pledge: “reduce, reuse, recycle, upcycle!” 03-18-10 For 22+ years we’ve been boasting about Citra Solv’s versatility and ability to accomplish nearly every household task. Now some of our brilliant customers have found yet another use for Citra Solv, and it’s taking the art world by storm! 03-16-10 We’ve always known how versatile Citra Solv is, and we love when our customers tell us about the wonderful ways they’re using our products, and how they’ve made a difference in their day. But we’re really overwhelmed by the number of letters and online notifications we’re receiving about how talented artists have been using Citra Solv to create incredible artwork. Take a look at all the great things Robert's been doing. Be sure to check out his Citra Solv creations, and send us some of your own, too! 03-04-10 The newest lesson plan, entitled “Renewable is Do-able,” focuses on renewable resources, including renewable energies (i.e. solar and wind power), and renewable, biological materials. Both a lesson plan and lesson insert into the Rustle the Leaf Earth Day book are available for free downloading, complete with comic, word search puzzle and matching game. For Citra Solv, a company that manufactures and distributes products made from renewable resources, Renewable is Do-able was a “natural” choice, said Steve Zeitler, co-founder of Citra Solv. “We believe that every little activity, every comic strip punch line, every coloring page can help establish a life-long awareness for environmentally responsible behaviors.” Citra Solv is also running a promotion on the Rustle website for educators, offering the opportunity to win exclusive, limited edition Rustle the Leaf Earth Day posters. 02-26-10 What do you get when you add a spotless kitchen, a bunch of messy items, and an aspiring young filmmaker? The award-winning Citra Solv You Tube Video Contest entry! Our runner-up entry, "Crime Scene,” comes from Grant Rosenmeyer of Connecticut. The film was written, directed and produced by Grant, who is currently studying film at the New York University. Grant created the film with his buddies Max Singer, Ben Bass, Anna Hastings and Atticus Connors. Grant is no stranger to movies, having won the Best Student Film award at the 2009 Connecticut Film Festival for his movie, Fugue. He has also been featured in several Broadway, television and film productions. Congratulations to both of these SERIOUSLY talented filmmakers, and big thanks to all of those who participated. Keep checking back with us – we’re going to be featuring more contests, more chances to win some big bucks, and of course, more chances to use CITRA SOLV! Rustle the Leaf will be making his Italian appearance at www.ecoradio.it. Ecoradio is a public-financed broadcaster in Italia. Their tagline is “La voce del pianeta,” the voice of the planet. The folks over there have requested to run a series of Rustle comics – translated into their native Italian, of course – to raise ecological consciousness. A heartfelt wish to our new Italian amicis for much buona fortuna. No matter what language, the message remains the same: we must all work together to save the most important resource we share: the Earth. Grazie mille! 01-01-10 12-23-09 12-23-09 Thanks so much to Sunny for her kind words, and for the great work she does! 11-24-09 Rustle the Leaf has made some great new friends at MyOzone.org, the eco-informational site that reinforces the Think Green initiative.
